This is Nest.
Nest is a smoke detector.
Before you read this we would like to tell you one thing.
It’s ok to be excited about a smoke detector. It’s a little bit weird, but this gadget is so advanced it would really be weird if you weren’t excited.
Smoke detectors are known for two things. Alarming you if your house is on fire (rare event) and alarming you if the batteries are low. We ask ourselves, where can you improve this basic system. For starters making the battery alarm not sound in the middle of the night is a great start. Instead of the “all-hell-has-broken-loose” style alarm for a simple thing like battery change, Nest sends you a notification to your phone that you need to change batteries soon. Smart move because two thirds of fire related deaths in the US happened in homes with no smoke detector or one that was just not working.
Scenario: Your bedroom is the victim of a small fire. Nest sends you a notification to your phone and a female voice talks from every Nest smoke detector in the house saying: “Heads up, there’s smoke in the bedroom.”. If you don’t react, the alarm goes full volume on you and the red LED light blinks creating a submarine combat style atmosphere.
For safety reasons we recommend you get one, but also so you don’t have to wake up in the middle of the night to replace old batteries.
Seeing is believing, just watch the video if you’re not convinced.
